This 1988 Australian Gold coin commemorates the bicentennial of the settling of Sydney, Australia. The coin is 22 kt contains 0.2948 oz of actual gold weight. The obverse of the coin depicts Arthur Phillip stepping on the shore of Sydney cove in 1788. The reverse of the coin shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth and the year.

Admiral Arthur Phillip was selected to lead the expedition to Sydney in 1786. He was first governor of New South Wales (1788 – 1792).
