Description

In the heart of our nation’s capital, the hallowed walls of Parliament are home to thousands of carved and sculpted artworks of exceptional beauty. The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to showcase one of the many delights that grace these spaces with the third coin in its series featuring carvings inspired by the sculptural art of Parliament in 99.99% pure silver.

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Second in the three-coin series featuring a carved image from the East Block of Parliament, reinterpreted by Dominion Sculptor Phil White, in ultra-high relief.

  • Canadian sculptor and art conservator Phil White has been Canada’s official Dominion Sculptor since 2006.

  • The coin’s ultra-high relief profile lends dramatic depth to the image. Royal Canadian Mint engravers worked closely with the Dominion Sculptor to interpret the designs, including reviewing the tools and techniques that would have been used to carve this type of art in stone. Each coin has been carefully crafted to remain faithful to those original techniques.

  • A low mintage of only 4,000 of each coin means this series is sure to be sought after by collectors.

  • Makes a unique gift or fine addition to any collection featuring Canadian, historical, artistic, or political themes.

DESIGN
Engraved in ultra-high relief, the coin features an original depiction by Dominion Sculptor Phil White of a Gothic-style grotesque interpreted from a carving found on the East Block of the Parliament Buildings. The image portrays a Green man disgorging stylized “stiff-leaf” foliage from its mouth. The staring figure’s brows and hair are also composed of whirling, stylized leaves and stems.
