Description
The Grizzly – An Indomitable Hunter
This $125, 85mm, 99.99% pure silver coin is a work of art in itself. Designed by Canadian wildlife artist Pierre Leduc, the coin features the striking scene of a fearsome grizzly bear about to catch its next meal. Within this beautiful, traditional engraving, Pierre Leduc?s mastery brings to life a notorious, primal predator in the act of seizing its prey. Maw spread wide and formidable teeth ravenously opened, the grizzly hunts for salmon amid splashing water.
The scene is tangible, realistic and dynamic, rendered with remarkable talent and accuracy. Its subject matter pays a gorgeous tribute to the Canadian nature and the astonishing beasts that dwell behind the veil of the woods. This coin captures a primal wilderness, beautifully framed within a 85mm radius circle. In addition to the design of the coin, the artist?s sketches offer a candid look on the story of the design process behind this coin.

DID YOU KNOW?
- Eat ?em all. Grizzly bears are omnivores that can eat everything from seeds and insects to fish and elk. While they are masterful hunters, they also enjoy berries, seeds and mushrooms.
- Binge then nap. Personal diets vary from bear to bear, depending on their environment and available resources. However, all Canadian grizzlies hibernate. Throughout the end of the summer and the beginning of fall, they stock up on calories for their deep winter slumber.
- Population. According to Parks Canada, there are an estimated 20,000 grizzly bears living in western Canada. While the number may see elevated, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) actually lists the grizzly as threatened in Alberta.
