Description

This special medal pays tribute to the tremendous contributions of essential workers in all fields across Canada, as well as Canadians who are keeping people safe, healthy and connected as we face the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Royal Canadian Mint has proudly created a unique keepsake that you can wear, keep or give to someone to express your appreciation. We all know someone who has earned a medal.

The Royal Canadian Mint is donating 100% of the net proceeds to the Breakfast Club of Canada’s COVID-19 Emergency Funding to help support Canadian children and their families that are facing food insecurity now and in the months to come.

About the 2020 Recognition Medal & Magnet Design by One Mint

We are brave, we are strong, we are one. We are Canadian! The Recognition Medal, created by Royal Canadian Mint employees, features two different designs, each symbolizing the spirit of our nation as we stand together through these trying times.

The heart and maple leaf icon represents the collective spirit of Canadians. The maple leaf and heart as one symbolize Canadians coming together in embrace as we help those in need. The pulsating technology brings the strong heartbeat of our country to life.

The second side represents our grateful spirit. The heart in the centre of the group symbolizes Canadians coming together in appreciation for our essential workers. We recognize their dedication and bravery, and the micro text represents the thankful voices of a nation.

It was their way of showing their gratitude – through their art and craft.

DID YOU KNOW?

Breakfast Club of Canada COVID-19 Emergency Fund: Before the spread COVID-19, more than 1 million Canadian children were affected by food insecurity. Now, the current crisis is putting even more pressure on the families of these children. Breakfast Club of Canada has created an emergency fund to support children and local community organizations that assist food-insecure families…and they need our help to #FeedKidsNow.

Mint-made hand sanitizer and face shields: In an effort to support the fight against COVID 19, a portion of our facilities in Ottawa and Winnipeg were retooled to produce 448 litres of Mint-made hand sanitizer and 280 face shields for frontline healthcare workers.

Employee Support: Mint staff expressed the desire to be part of our COVID 19 support initiatives. The product design was created in-house, and employees and their families volunteered their time to assemble the medal package.
