This one-ounce gold coin is a first-of-its-kind issue that boasts a simple yet elegant design. It features His Majesty’s Royal Cypher encircled by beads, the denomination, and CANADA inscribed in bold letters. The Royal Cypher is a unique identifier of a monarch and serves as a symbolic representation of their reign. Despite the special significance of this coin, it carries an interesting historical anomaly. While the reverse of the coin displays the Royal Cypher of King Charles III, the obverse still features a posthumous effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II. This is because the Royal Canadian Mint is currently in the process of completing a new effigy for the King. The cipher for the new King was carefully selected by His Majesty from a series of designs prepared by the College of Arms.
