The Design: The half dollar coin in this set features a captivating design created by artist Alisha Giroux. The design showcases a mosaic of stylized Canadian icons arranged in a pattern that mirrors the iconic Canadian flag. Starting from the top and moving in a clockwise direction, the design includes a polar bear, a hockey skate, a canoe with oars, a beaver, a toque (winter hat), a moose, a curling stone, and a snowy owl. The centerpiece of the design is a selective application of red color, highlighting the moose’s antlers, a Canada goose, a mitten, a loon, and the log held by the beaver. These red and white colored icons come together to form the shape of another cherished Canadian symbol – the maple leaf.
Highly Collectible Special Issue with Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse: Since the new King Charles III dies were not yet available for this coin set, the obverse design features a posthumous effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Additionally, the design includes the double dates of her reign, 1952-2022, serving as a commemoration of her impressive tenure. The four dots or pearls positioned between the dates represent the four distinct effigies of Queen Elizabeth II that have graced Canadian coinage throughout the years. It’s worth mentioning that the Royal Canadian Mint has confirmed that no Queen Elizabeth effigy coins with a 2023 date will be released for general circulation.
